Ray has 23 years experience in journalism, strategic communications and crisis and issues response.
He is a sought after Reputation and Influence Strategist for international brands and organizations, local conglomerates and CEOs. He has conducted over 100 spokesperson and crisis trainings, messaging workshops and financial communications talks in Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore. Ray is fluent in English, Bahasa Malaysia and Bahasa Indonesia.
Ray is currently CEO of Engage SEA, a specialist Reputation and Influence firm supporting clients in ASEAN with a particular focus on government and public affairs, deal communications, issues and crisis management.
He was previously CEO of Edelman Indonesia, leading over 100 consultants supporting eminent local and foreign organizations such as Bank Indonesia, World Islamic Economic Forum, Shell, Pertamina, Hewlett Packard, Unilever, USAID, GIZ, ASEAN Secretariat and the European Union.
Ray joined Edelman in 2010 as MD of its Malaysian office, growing it to be the largest PR firm in Malaysia with over 60 consultants, leading the strategic communications and stakeholder engagement strategy for organizations such as MRT Corp, Pavilion KL, Shell, Emery Oleochemicals, Unilever, Sarawak Energy and more.
Prior to Edelman, Ray was General Manager at G2PR, part of the multinational WPP Grey network for over three years, growing the team’s competencies across corporate, consumer, technology and sports marketing.
Ray is recognized for his depth of government and public affairs, financial communications, investor relations and CEO/Leadership positioning knowledge. In Malaysia, Ray led FGV to its IPO, which as the second largest behind FB, Tune Insurance to a premium on its opening, MBF and MISC restructuring, SONA Petroleum deal comms, Shell Global Solutions expansion, AMMB and Metlife M&A, BRDB, Bank Islam Brunei transformation and Bloomberg. In Indonesia, Ray led the Garuda and BRI Syariah IPOs, Chevron, Shell, Impex and Total business disruptions, TPS investor engagement narrative, Pertamina training and Bank Indonesia Tax Amnesty programme.
He is also the only Malaysian PR consultant to take delegations from two countries to the World Economic Forum Davos, counting 4 years of experience supporting clients media and stakeholder engagement there.Before agency life, he was Head of Corporate Communications at OSK Investment Bank as it transitioned from a Universal Broker to a full fledged Investment Bank, and Managing Editor of a regional trade publication house. Ray obtained his LLB from the University of London and a Professional Diploma in Public Relations from the Institute of Public Relations Malaysia.
